Summit Background

The steel industry is a cornerstone of the global economy, integral to infrastructure, manufacturing, and technology. As industries worldwide look to improve operational efficiency, the steel sector is no exception, with growing emphasis on advancing production technologies that enhance energy efficiency and reduce operational costs.

North America has emerged as a leader in sustainable steel production, with the region achieving the lowest average carbon intensity per ton of steel produced globally. This progress is underpinned by a high reliance on electric arc furnace (EAF) technology, which now accounts for 70% of North American steel production, alongside advancements in recycling practices that yield over 80 million metric tons of scrap steel annually. Looking ahead, the focus is shifting towards optimizing existing production processes, improving resource utilization, and enhancing overall competitiveness in a dynamic global market. However, critical challenges, including energy infrastructure modernization and cross-border policy harmonization, remain central to achieving these ambitious goals.

The NAGSS 2025 will convene key stakeholders to exchange insights and strategies on the future of green steel. The event will spotlight advances in low-carbon technologies, the evolving policy landscape, and collaborative opportunities to accelerate decarbonization. Together, these discussions aim to drive actionable outcomes that will not only enhance the region's leadership in green steel production but also contribute to global efforts in achieving a sustainable and resilient future.
